Since being named by Variety in their list of Ten Writers to Watch in 2000,
Philippa Boyens, who made her debut as a screenwriter with The Lord of the Rings
trilogy, has been nominated for an Oscar, a British Academy of Film and Television
Arts Award and a Writers Guild of America Award, among others. Prior to this,
Boyens worked in theatre as a playwright, teacher, producer and editor.
Boyens moved to film via a stint as Director or the New Zealand Writers Guild.
Her love of J.R.R. Tolkien's work brought her to this project, having been a
fan since she was eleven years old.
