Executive Producers Robert Shaye and Michael Lynne are the Co-
Chairmen and Co-Chief Executive Officers of New Line Cinema
Corporation, which was founded by Shaye in 1967. The company has
one of the most stable management teams in the history of the
industry and in its 36th year is the oldest remaining studio
still run by its founder. Friends since their days as students
at Columbia Law School, Shaye and Lynne together masterminded New
Line's transformation from a privately held distributor of art
films to one of the entertainment industry's leading independent
studios.
Shaye and Lynne were pioneers in franchise filmmaking in the mid-
1980s and have now brought the biggest film franchise in history
to fruition. Last year, the success of the first two films in The
Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well as other New Line hit
releases, vaulted the studio into the number five position in
both domestic and international market share.
Under Shaye and Lynne's leadership, New Line has demonstrated a
firm commitment to creativity and innovation in the development,
production, financing, marketing and distribution of movies. Now
a unit of Time Warner, New Line is an independent, fully
integrated studio with divisions devoted to television, music,
home entertainment, theater, licensing, merchandising and
international marketing/distribution. In addition to The Lord of
the Rings trilogy, New Line and its subsidiary Fine Line Features
have produced and distributed a diverse slate of theatrical
motion pictures and other quality entertainment. Recent releases
include Elf, About Schmidt, I Am Sam, American Splendor, (with HBO
Films), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the Rush Hour and Austin
Powers films, among others.
