October 1999
NEW LINE officially announced the cast for the LORD OF THE
RINGS trilogy on October 8th, three days before the film was
to begin shooting in Wellington, New Zealand.
Gone were a number of New Zealand Army soldiers,
set to step in as extras in several battle scenes, as a
result of their commitment in the East Timor peacekeeping mission.
This led to another casting call later in the month.
Such scenes as the hobbits crossing Brandywine river and
interiors at the Prancing Pony were shot this month at
locations such as Manakau, Harcourt Park, STONE FILM
Studios, Mt. Victoria, and Fort Dorset.
