The Return of the King Receives 11 Academy Awards®!

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King received 11
Oscars® at the 76th Annual Awards ceremony of the Academy of
Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, including Best Picture and Best
Director- Peter Jackson.
Ngila Dickson Wins Costume Designers Guild Award for The Return of the King

The Costume Designers Guild (CDG) announced winners in five
categories of theatrical films, television and commercials of its
2004 Excellence in Costume Design Awards. The Sixth Annual CDG
Awards were presented yesterday at a black-tie banquet from the
International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Anjelica
Huston was mistress of ceremonies of the Awards for the fifth
time. Presiding over the event was CDG President Dr. Deborah
Nadoolman Landis. CDG officer Mary Rose supervised the Guild's
awards competition.

The Return of the King Wins Empire Award for Best Film of the Year!

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King received three
awards in the annual Empire Magazine Awards ceremony in London.
The film received Best Film of the Year, the Sony Ericsson Scene
of the Year (Ride of the Rohirrim), and Best British Actor (Andy
Serkis- Gollum).

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King received
four Golden Globe awards during the HFPA's 61st Annual
Awards Ceremony at the Beverly Hilton. The film was
awarded Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director -
Peter Jackson, Best Original Score - Howard Shore, and
Best Original Song - "Into the West" by Annie Lennox,
Howard Shore and Fran Walsh.

TV Guide Features 4 Collectible Hologram Covers

For its December 13th issue (on newsstands December 8th) TV Guide
celebrates the upcoming release of "Return of the King," the
third and final installment in Peter Jackson's film adaptation of
the "Lord of the Rings" saga, with four collector's hologram
covers, each featuring a different signature character. The four
covers include Eliljah Wood's hobbit Frodo Baggins; Ian
McKellen's wizard Gandalf; Viggo Mortensen's warrior Aragorn; and
the slippery deceiver Gollum.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Premieres in Wellington, NZ
Date: December 1st, 2003
The cast and filmmakers for The Lord of the Rings turned out for
the world premiere of the final installment of the movie trilogy-
The Return of the King. The premiere took place at the Embassy
Theatre in Wellington, New Zealand, and had more than 100,000
fans, 15 people deep lined up to see the stars of the film as
they made their way to the theater in a special parade.
Wellington's streets were festooned with posters, up to eight
stories tall, of "Rings" characters.

Gollum and Ents greet New York City commuters

To celebrate the November 18th DVD and VHS release of the Special Extended
Edition of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, NYC commuters are invited to
ride the "Middle-earth Shuttle" (otherwise known as the Times Square-Grand
Central Shuttle). The Shuttle train's cars-replete with Middle-earth creatures,
vines, moss and stones-will carry commuters between both stops from 11:30AM-
1:30PM. Brave travelers will have the opportunity to explore the Middle-earth-
themed subway station, accompany Gollum back and forth, stand tall with 12-foot-
high living Ents, and much more!
New Line Cinema and PENCIL team up for Creative Writing Contest
Date: November 11th, 2003
Select high schools and middle schools in four US cities are set
to join New Line Cinema in a creative writing contest leading up
to the December 17 release of The Lord of the Rings: The Return
of the King, the final installment in Peter Jackson's motion
picture trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkien's classic novel.
Anchored in New York by PENCIL (Public Education Needs Civic
Involvement in Learning); by the Board of Education, Office of
Language and Education, in Chicago; Turning the Page in
Washington, D.C.; and the San Francisco School Volunteers, the
contest is designed to not only inspire reading and creative
writing, but will earn schools cash grants, books and early
screenings of the film.
The children will be asked to write a 200-word essay on the
theme of Gandalf's quote from The Lord of the Rings: "All you
have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to
you."
Five finalist essays will be chosen by contest organizers in
each city, with New Line selecting one winner out of each group
of five. These four grand prize winners will receive
promotional merchandising package tied to the film, along with a
private screening for the student's friends and family.
The prizes for all schools that participate include a $10,000
grant per city applied to the purchase of new books for the
school library, as well as a complete set of The Lord of the
Rings book series and tie-in guides donated by publisher
Houghton Mifflin.
Official Soundtrack for The Return of the King In Stores November 25th!

The original soundtrack to The Lord of the Rings: The Return Of The King, the
final installment in Peter Jackson's epic The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, will be
released on Reprise/WMG Soundtracks on November 25. The film opens nationwide
on December 17 from New Line Cinema.
With music composed, orchestrated and conducted by Oscar and Grammy Award winner
Howard Shore, who composed the scores to the two previous films in the Trilogy,
The Lord of the Rings: The Return Of The King also features the new song "Into
The West," performed by Grammy Award winner Annie Lennox, and spotlights guest
appearances by acclaimed soprano Renée Fleming, renowned Irish flautist Sir
James Galway, and others.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return Of The King is being made available in four
separate configurations. The CD format will feature 19 original selections from
the film. A special limited edition package will contain the best-selling
soundtracks from all three installments of The Lord Of The Rings, including The
Fellowship Of The Ring (2001) and The Two Towers (2002), which have sold over 3
million units worldwide.
A deluxe CD DVD edition will contain The Return Of The King CD and an exclusive
DVD that will feature bonus material including a The Lord of the Rings
"supertrailer"; a The Return of the King photo gallery from the recording
sessions; film stills; and poems and lyrics from The Return Of The King. It
will also contain the special feature, "Use Well The Days: A Behind The Scenes
Portrait of Howard Shore," a 20-minute documentary focusing on Shore's work in
London during the recording of the film score by documentarian Elizabeth
Cotnoir; as well as a second Anne Lennox track recorded especially for the DVD.
Finally, an internet-only version of the CD DVD package will be available only
to online buyers with additional The Lord Of The Rings extras. CD formats will
contain a weblink to exclusive multi-media content from the films and liner
notes written by Howard Shore and director Peter Jackson.
Standout selections of The Lord of the Rings: The Return Of The King include
such Howard Shore originals as "Minas Tirith," "Twilight And Shadow;" "A Storm
Is Coming" and "The End Of All Things." The film's title track features Sir
James Galway, Renée Fleming and Lord Of The Rings star Viggo Mortensen.

New Trailer for The Return of the King to debut in theaters on 9/26 September 23rd

New Line Cinema will debut the new trailer for The Lord of the Rings:
The Return of the King in theaters around the world on Friday, September 26.
In North America, the 2 min., 30 sec. trailer will play exclusively
with New Line's Secondhand Lions, now in its second weekend of release.
It will be in theaters throughout the weekend and will then debut online
at www.lordoftherings.net on Monday, September 29.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy to be shown in theaters this December
Date: August 22nd, 2003
Leading up to the December 17 release of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, the final film in Peter Jackson's epic dramatic trilogy, New Line Cinema will release a limited number of 35mm prints of the Special Extended Editions of The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers in theaters across North America. The special screening series will culminate in an unprecedented marathon of back-to-back presentations of the Extended Editions followed by a special screening of The Return of the King. The announcement was made today by Rolf Mittweg, the studio's president and chief operating officer, worldwide distribution and marketing.
From December 5 - 11, the studio will release 100-150 35mm prints of the Special Extended Edition of The Fellowship of the Ring in cities across the country. On December 12 - 15, these prints will be replaced with Special Extended Edition prints of The Two Towers. On Monday, December 8, and Monday, December 15, both films will be presented back-to-back. Then, on Tuesday, December 16, participating theaters will show a one-time-only marathon of both Extended Edition prints followed by an 11pm screening of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The official opening of the film will commence at 12:01 AM on Wednesday, December 17, 2003.
Advance ticketing for the screening series is expected to commence this fall.
The Hollywood Reporter Key Art Awards

received two awards at the annual Key Art Awards hosted by The
Hollywood Reporter. The site received the award for Best Internet
Advertising, which was voted on by a panel of industry
executives, as well as the first ever Online Voter's Choice Award
for Best Internet Advertising.
2003 MTV Movie Awards

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers wins Best Movie at 2003 MTV Awards
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers received four MTV Movie Awards in their 2003 ceremony in Los Angeles.
Categories included Best Movie, Best Action Sequence (Helm's Deep),
Best Duo (Elijah Wood and Sean Astin), and Best Virtual Performance (Gollum).
The Lord of fhe Rings actors Sean Astin and Elijah Wood were on hand to receive
their awards, with video acceptances by Director Peter Jackson, Andy Serkis and Gollum.
World Premiere of The Return of the King set for December 1st.

Wellington, New Zealand will be the home of the World Premiere
festivities for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,
announces Rolf Mittweg, New Line Cinema's President and COO
Worldwide Distribution and Marketing. "We are proud that
Wellington and the people of New Zealand will host this cinematic
event to the world."
The World Premiere screening of The Return of the King at the
Embassy Theatre, and the after party (venue TBD), will be held on
Monday, December 1st, 2003.
Says, Executive Producer of The Lord of the Rings, and New Line
Cinema's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer,
Mark Ordesky, "We look forward to culminating the wonderful

Hollywood Reporter Key Art Awards is the only international
competition honoring individuals responsible for the design and
creation of motion picture marketing materials including posters,

online. Winners will be announced at the awards show on June
