THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING
In the first film of the trilogy, the young Hobbit Frodo Baggins inherits the One Ring, an instrument of absolute power that could allow Sauron, Dark Lord of Mordor, to rule Middle-earth and enslave all its peoples. Warned by the wizard Gandalf to flee his home in the Shire, Frodo and companions Sam, Merry, and Pippin set off on an extraordinary and treacherous journey.

At great Council of Elrond in the Elvish haven at Rivendell, the four Hobbits are joined with Gandalf, two noble Men, Aragorn and Boromir, the Elf Legolas, and Gimli the Dwarf, into a Fellowship of Nine committed to taking the One Ring to Mount Doom, where it first was forged, and destroying it forever. Under constant threat from the minions of Sauron, as well as the corrupting influence of the One Ring itself, the Fellowship is broken and Middle-earth thrown into the gravest of danger.

THE TWO TOWERS
Though splintered, the members of the original Fellowship are no less determined in their heroic quest. Lost in the grim hills of Emyn Muil, Frodo and Sam discover they are being followed by the mysterious Gollum. A mercurial creature, warped by his own prior possession of the Ring, Gollum promises to guide the Hobbits to the Black Gates of Mordor.

Across Middle-earth Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli encounter the besieged kingdom of Rohan, whose once great King Theoden has fallen under the deadly spell of the traitorous wizard Saruman. Eowyn, the niece to the King, recognizes a leader in the rugged warrior Aragorn. And though he finds himself drawn to her, Aragorn also bears an enduring love for the Elf Arwen, daughter of Elrond.

In their parallel journeys, the members of the Fellowship must stand against the powerful forces spreading from the Two Towers - Orthanc Tower in Isengard, where Saruman has bred a lethal army, and Sauron's fortress at Barad-dûr, deep within the dark lands of Mordor.

THE RETURN OF THE KING
With the final battle joined and the legions of darkness gathering, Gandalf urgently tries to rally Gondor's broken army to action. Even with the aide of Rohan's cavalry, led by King Theoden and shield maiden Eowyn, the forces of men are no match for the enemies swarming against them, forcing Aragorn and his stout-hearted companions Legolas and Gimli to seek reinforcements from the most dangerous and unlikely of places.

In the face of great losses, they charge into the battle of their lifetimes, tied together by their singular goal to keep Sauron distracted and give the Ring Bearer a chance to complete his tenuous quest. But the closer Frodo gets to his final destination, the heavier his burden becomes and the more he must rely on Sam and Gollum, sparking a test of allegiances and will upon which the fate of Middle-earth hangs.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King concludes the epic story, and reveals how through courage, commitment, and determination, even the least of us can change the world.
